The MSU community is committed to creating a culture of support, which means that we acknowledge the different ways that students might encounter difficulty, reach out to provide support, and encourage getting help at one of the many agencies on campus that offer counseling or student support services.

Suicide prevention is a major focus on our campus. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among college students nationwide, and there almost 1,100 suicides at U.S. college campuses each year. MSU has a team of psychologists, counselors, faculty, staff, and student leaders working to protect the MSU community from the devastating impact of suicide.  For a more comprehensive overview of crisis, counseling, and prevention options, visit our Suicide Prevention page.

See Something, Say Something, Do Something

If you are concerned about the welfare of someone affiliated with MSU and this is a non-emergency, we encourage you to complete a CARE ALERT. Sometimes people cannot or will not ask for support, so informing the CARE Team of your concern may be a critical factor in getting them support. There are a number of reasons why someone might need help that you can report on this form, including but not limited to threats of suicide or self-harm, threats regarding violence to others, other mental health related concerns, or concerns relating to the health and safety of individuals or the community.

If you consider the situation to be an emergency, call 911 NOW. If this is not an emergency please submit a CARE ALERT
