FALL CLINICS:
Bear Safety Clinics:
Are you Bear Aware? Join the Outdoor Recreation Program for this 1-hour Bear Safety clinic: this is a must-do for anyone recreating around Bozeman. Learn the basics of bear behavior, keys to preventing bear encounters, and what you need to do to respect this powerful animal and stay safe in Bear Country. Cap off the clinic with an opportunity to fire off some inert bear spray (no irritant added) to get real life practice with this essential safety tool.
Every participant will receive two coupons with completion of the clinic:
- 1 Free Weekend rental of any of our bear safety products (bear spray and bear-proof food storage products)
- 25% discount off our already low-priced season long rental of bear spray (full price=$20, discount price=$15)
These clinics and the rental specials are made possible with support from the Office of the Dean of Students.

Intro to Bouldering Clinic
Learn the basics of bouldering including movement, technique, and ways to engage with the bouldering community. This clinic is designed to introduce the bouldering wall in North Dome to more folks and break down barriers preventing people from getting on the wall. Show proof of registration to get your rental coupon! Clinic meets at the Bouldering Wall in the North Dome.
Cost: Better than free! The cost includes the rental of climbing shoes for the day of the clinic, but you must go in to the rental shop to pick them up prior to the clinic start time.

SPRING CLINICS:
Avalanche Rescue Clinics
Learn to use an avalanche beacon, probe, and shovel for the first time or refresh your skills and get some focused coaching with Outdoor Recreation Program staff on hand. All equipment is provided, but you will need to arrive at least 15 minutes early to check out your equipment if you're borrowing from us. Feel free to bring your own gear to get more familiar with it. Bring gloves for realistic practice and a warm jacket so you'll be able to focus as the temperature drops.
Every participant will receive two coupons with completion of the clinic:
- 1 Free Weekend rental of any of our avalanche safety products (beacon, shovel, probe)
- 25% discount off our already low-priced season long rental of an avalanche safety package
- Unlimited free 2-hour rentals M-Th to go out and practice at the beacon park!

Cross-Country Ski Clinics
Are you interested in learning how to cross-country ski? Cross-country skiing is a great way to explore Montana in the winter and meet new friends! The Outdoor Recreation Program will be offering FREE beginner ski lessons this semester. All ski gear (skis, boots, and poles) are provided to participants at no cost. Please call or swing by the Outdoor Recreation Building at least 15 minutes ahead of time to pick up your gear rental.
Each clinic will start at the Outdoor Recreation Building, and we will walk to the groomed ski loop on campus. No experience is necessary! Lessons will be geared towards beginner skiers, and focused on the fundamentals of classic skiing technique.
Every participant will receive three coupons with completion of the clinic:
- 1 Free Weekend rental of a XC Ski Package (skis, poles, boots)
- Discounted participation (50% off) in one of our XC ski day trips
- Unlimited free 2-hour rentals M-Th to go out and use the ski loop!

Ski/Board Tuning Clinic: Learn to wax and edge skis/boards
Learn the skills to wax and edge your skiis right on campus. Join us for a tuning clinic to help take care of your gear and get outside more. These clinics are free and can get you access to the tools needed to care for your skis/board all season. No experience is necessary.
Cost: Free!
