Description of Request

Submitted By: Carina Beck

The Allen Yarnell Center for Student Success (AYCSS) has outgrown its current space in the Strand Union Building (SUB), resulting in a shortage of offices for both full-time and part-time staff. The lack of dedicated space has impacted student engagement opportunities, including access to scholarship programs. Additionally, employer on-campus recruitment spaces are now being used by staff, leaving no appropriate professional setting for employers to interview students and graduates. Given that Planning, Design & Construction has begun working with ASMSU on a master plan for the SUB, staff recommends delaying the allocation of additional space within the SUB until the outcome of both the student vote and Board of Regents' approval in May is known. Once there is clear direction from students and BOR, a long-term plan for AYCSS can be developed, as the master plan projects AYCSS remaining in the SUB. In the meantime, staff proposes allocating temporary space in Culbertson Hall 335, 337, and 338 to meet the immediate need. AYCSS currently has a presence in Culbertson Hall with space on the second floor for the Morrill Scholars program.

Resolution

Date: March 7, 2025

Space Management Committee has approved the allocation of Culbertson 335, 337, and 338 for use by AYCSS.
