2. This title change is in keeping with our peer institutions with similar programs. We have found that our graduates struggle to get interviews because employers do not understand what our program is as we are still using an Antiquated name (industrial Technology). This old Title is a holdover from the 1960’s when technology education was called industrial arts.

2. The Environmental Health Option is currently in the Department of Microbiology & Cell Biology. However, it fits better as an Option in the Department of Land Resources & Environmental Sciences. LRES is proposing to oversee the Option and make the necessary small changes to the curriculum such that it is an Option within the Environmental Sciences major, and it meets accreditation requirements and standards.

2. The proposed name change from Materials Science to Materials Science and Engineering is motivated by a strong preference expressed by both students and faculty in the program, as well as a desire for the program name to more accurately represent the cross-college (CLS and NACOE) nature of the program's participants and curriculum.
VII. Senators’ Open Conversation
a. LRES is having problem filling a position. Received some temporary funding. Six-month position. No field work involved. All applicants were from out of state, and none were willing to move to Montana for six months. What can Montana Hall to do
i. Each state has different laws on compensation, taxes, etc. HR has been under pressure on this issue. Would be good to get someone in from HR to answer these questions.
1. Is it driven by the Board of Regents?
a. Understanding is that it is guidance from OCHE.
b. Had an admin wanted to do work remotely. Classified staff. State of Montana has legislation that classifies certain employees reside within the state.
c. Would like to hear from HR. PIs need information like this for when they are writing position descriptions.
d. What is going on with the dentist not wanting to be providers for our dental plan?
i. We are locked in a contract with them for a while.
ii. Is it a Bozeman issue or is it statewide.
iii. Will have Jeannette Gray-Gilbert come in and answer questions.
VIII. Public Comment
a. Albert Reyes-Grad Student: Exponent article said that faculty can access the IP address of students. Technically it is legal, but it is a privacy issue. Just bringing it to your attention.
i. What happens with the move to Canvas?
1. This is a broader conversation across higher education. More scrutiny of online education. Tracking the IP address may tell you that the student is having someone else take an exam for them.
2. Understand it is still available in Canvas. May be able to be turned on and off.
ii. You can get a GPS pin through a quick Google search if you have someone’s IP address.
iii. Can bypass with a VPN.
iv. Would like to hear from a security person from UIT.
b. Next Tuesday is the Provost’s Distinguished Lecturer
IX. Adjourn
