MSU Extension Winter Ag Series –  February 13, 2025

Montana State University Extension in Yellowstone County will be hosting the Winter Ag Series on Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm at the 4-H Building at MetraPark.

Please RSVP no later than 5pm on Februrary 11th to the Extension office at 406-256-2828. Lecture topics and descriptions are below. 

10:30 – 11:30 am  - Rangeland Weed Management: Dr. Jane Mangold, MSU Professor and Extension Invasive Plant Specialist. Dr. Mangold will focus on identifying ventenata, its biology and ecology, and how to manage this invasive species.  One Private Pesticide Applicator credit is available by attending.

11:30 am – 12:30 pm - Forage seedling and Stand Establishment: Dr. Hayes Goosey, MSU Assistant Professor and Extension Forage Specialist. Dr. Goosey will discuss practices that increase seedling establishment which set up forage fields for years of quality production.

12:30 – 1:00 pm - Lunch provided by host

1:00 – 2:00 pm - Postpartum Cattle Nutrition: Dr. Megan Von Emon, MSU Beef Cattle Specialist.  Dr. Von Emon will address nutrient requirements for cows/heifers post-calving and how to calculate if their needs are met. How cattle nutrition impacts calf health growth will be shared.
