Open Rural Teaching Positions in Montana
As a founding organization of the Montana Small Schools Alliance, MSU and the CRRE are committed to supporting small, rural, and remote schools and their communities across the state. As part of our service, we are developing an accessible listing of open rural teaching positions in MSSA member schools. This webpage is a new initiative from CRRE and is currently being launched as a proof of concept. With grant support from the Rural Schools Collaborative, we will expand this resource to include tools that all rural schools will be able to use to share the story of their rural school and showcase the strengths of their community to prospective job seekers.
K-8 Positions
SY School has a K-8 teaching position available. Due to location and size, the teacher is responsible for all areas of study including music, art, and physical education; and, therefore must be highly organized and have the ability to multi-task.
The 2026-27 year will have 5 students enrolled, one teacher, and a district clerk. The grade levels of the students are 1 each in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 8th.
SY School is a one-room school located along Pumpkin Creek (Highway 59, between Miles City and Broadus) in a remote area of Eastern Montana. Housing provided is a two-bedroom basement teacherage (utilities are included). Salary is $42,856. Health insurance will be offered.

Twin Hills School serves approximately 15–18 students in a multi-grade classroom and is located on the Twin Hills Hutterite Colony within the Knees School District. Salary: Starting Salary $38,000.00 DOE (Depending on Experience). The district participates

Potomac School District #11 is seeking applicants for an Intervention Specialist substitute to
cover a 12-week maternity leave, beginning in February 2026. We will consider applicants who
