MSU Requirement
Overview
Staying healthy is essential to your academic success!
The Montana University System requires all students taking six (6) or more credits and paying mandatory fees to have and maintain medical insurance while they are attending MSU.
The Montana University System contracts with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana to
provide students an affordable and comprehensive PPO private insurance plan as an
option to satisfy this requirement. This plan meets or exceeds a Gold level of coverage.
It also covers 100% of the cost of lab tests, X-rays, orthopedic devices, immunizations,
minor surgeries and procedures at MSU Student Health Services.
If you already have health insurance insurance, you must decline this student insurance policy each semester. Any changes to your insurance selection must be made before the 15th class day of the semester.
Steps to Decline Montana University System Student Health Insurance:
- Each semester, students will be assigned a Task in MyMSU called Insurance Selection Requirement
- Login to MyMSU and click on the Tasks/Calendar icon in the upper right corner, then select theInsurance Selection Requirement task
- Click Accept or Decline
- Clicking on Accept will confirm purchase of the student health insurance
- Clicking on Decline will confirm students have existing coverage and do not wish to purchase the health insurance
- The selection can be made or changed until the 15th day of class
- The Insurance Selection Requirement must be completed every semester
If you do not see the Insurance Selection Requirement task by clicking on the Tasks/Calendar icon, navigate to the Billing & Payment section in MyMSU, where the Insurance Selection Requirement will be visible.
Remember to check your bill to ensure the health insurance premium was not assessed. Changes can take 24 hours to reflect.
Billing Insurance for Medical Services
MSU Student Health Services does not directly bill private insurance plans, outside of the Student Health Insurance Plan, for services. Charges for services not covered by the Student Health Fee are applied to the student's account and payment is the student's responsibility.
Students who wish to file a claim for services for reimbursement from their private insurance carrier can request a statement from the front desk to file claims themselves.
Pharmacy:
The MSU Student Health Services Pharmacy will directly bill most insurance plans including Medicaid for prescriptions and some vaccines.
Remember:
There is no additional cost for a medical appointment for enrolled students who have paid the Health Fee through their student account.
