Tools let you expand the capabilities of the model, letting it access more and do more than it can without the tools. Such an example is the 'Tempest Data' tool which can access the tempest system and help people troubleshoot issues with their jobs.

To enable one of these tools you click the four square in the chat bar to bring up the menu.

This brings up a menu that lets you enable some of the builtin tools like Web Search and Code Interpreter. But there is a ‘Tools’ sub menu with more tools that you are able to access.

To enable any of the tools you have access to you are able to click the toggle next to the tool you want to use to turn it on and then the model you are running will be able to use that tool to better assist you with your task.

There are several protocols that we support for tool access.

One of them is the Portals Tool method, which is accessed through Workspace > Tools

Workspace tab in right hand middle, with Tools header selected

You are able to import tools other people have written, and write your own tools for your use, and share the with others if you wish.

The other method is external tool servers called MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers. To add your own MCP server you click on your profile in the bottom left corner of the page.
