LeeAnna Irvine Muzquiz

LeeAnna Muzquiz is a practicing family practitioner with the tribal health department for the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. She is a graduate of Montana State University and University of Washington School of Medicine. She completed her residency at the Indian Health Board Clinic through the Swedish Family Medicine Residency Program in Seattle and was chief resident from 2002 to 2003. Her specialties are adolescent medicine, women’s health and diabetes, and she is active in health policy and advocacy issues. Muzquiz has served on the Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho Medical Education Program admissions committee and was recently named associate dean of admissions for the University of Washington Medical School. She also serves of the board of directors for the National Association of American Indian Physicians and was given the Dr. George Saari Humanitarianism Award by MSU in 2014.  The largest minority population in Montana is Native American, 6 to 7 percent, yet only 0.5 to 1 percent choose medicine as their career path. She is dedicated to finding ways to increase the workforce of Native physicians and feels a responsibility to be a Native American voice in health care.
