Marga Hosaeus

Marga Hoseaus taught as a professor at Montana State University for 34 years.  She was a pioneer and strong advocate for women in athletics and served as head of the women’s health and physical education department at Montana State College from 1947-1979 until the men’s and women’s departments merged. She continued to serve on the faculty for the newly combined department. Hosaeus spent most of her childhood in Germany but returned to the United States for higher education. At Montana State, she committed herself to the physical education of young women attending college. In 1984, a new health and recreation center was constructed at MSU and named the Marga Hosaeus Health, Physical Education and Recreation Complex. When a new fitness center was dedicated in 2008, the name was maintained with the new building because of Hosaeus’ long-term positive and impactful commitments to the health programs initially for women, but later for men and women.

Marga Hosaeus was a pioneer and strong advocate for women in athletics. The Marga Hosaeus Health, Physical Education and Recreation Complex was named in her honor.
