Phyllis Bock

Phyllis Bock’s work is unmatched and of huge historical and cultural significance for anyone attending Montana State University between the 1970s and early 2010. Bock was hired at MSU in 1982 to initiate the Associated Students of MSU (ASMSU) student legal services program as a pilot project. The program was intended to provide low cost legal services to students in the areas of tenant and landlord law, family law, domestic abuse and misdemeanors. After proving to be a valuable asset to the students and the institution, the program formally became an ongoing legal services resource to students. Bock became the Student Legal Services program full-time attorney and director until 2014, an impressive 32 years of service. In addition to providing leadership and services to the students in need of legal assistance, Bock, as director of ASMSU, encouraged students in their initiation and funding for both the MSU Leadership Institute and the MSU Sustainability Center. Bock also served on the search committee as the classified employee responsible for hiring President Waded Cruzado.

Phyllis Bock served the students of MSU for over 30 years as a tremendous mentor and counselor to the student body president, vice president, ASMSU student senators and countless students.
