Brooke Anderson

Brooke Anderson is a visiting professor at Montana State University. Before coming to MSU, she served as a U.S. ambassador at the United Nations, chief of staff and counselor for the White House National Security Council, senior adviser to the Secretary of State and the Under Secretary for Political Affairs on the Iran nuclear negotiations. She has served as a trusted adviser to U.S. presidents, Cabinet secretaries, members of Congress, presidential candidates, philanthropists and business leaders. She was the Chief National Security spokesperson and policy adviser for the Obama-Biden transition team. In 2009, she was appointed Susan Rice's chief of staff at the U.N., and in 2010 was promoted to serve as a deputy and alternate ambassador to the U.N. in the absence of Ambassador Rice. There Anderson focused on issues involving U.N. peacekeeping and nuclear nonproliferation. At MSU, she teaches a class on national security policy. In that capacity, she has mentored many women political science students, who have gone on to professional public service and law school. In 2014, MSU awarded her an honorary doctorate in letters and science.

From key roles in government and at the nonprofit Nuclear Threat Initiative, Brooke Anderson has worked creatively, tenaciously and effectively for more than two decades to prevent the spread and use of nuclear weapons around the globe.
