Crystal Alegria

Crystal Alegria graduated from Montana State University’s department of sociology and anthropology in 1995 and its history department in 1998. Since then, she has been a champion for women and students in the fields of archaeology and history. Alegria returned to her alma mater in 2004 to join Project Archaeology, an organization located within the sociology and anthropology department and has been guiding students to careers in history and archaeology ever since. She works to ensure that students, especially women and descendant community members, always have a seat at the proverbial table. Alegria has made an impact on the Montana public through her work doing professional development with hundreds of educators, helping them to bring archaeology into their classrooms. She has also trained and mentored over 100 Site Stewards, volunteers who steward and protect our state’s archaeological resources.

Crystal Algeria’s goal is to honor those who came before, whether that is indigenous communities or women who paved the way for women today.
