Orchestral Studies at Montana State University offers performance opportunities to music majors and non-majors. An auditioned ensemble, the MSU Symphony is a challenging full-symphony-orchestra with no less than two concerts each semester.

The MSU Symphony Orchestra fosters the highest performance standards while offering its members the opportunity to expand their technical, intellectual, and musical horizons performing symphonic literature of all genres.

2025-2026 String Section Auditions

Auditions for the string sections will occur on Monday and Tuesday, August 18 and 19, 2025.

Violins- Monday, Aug. 18 from 8:30 a.m.-noon

Violas- Monday, Aug. 18 from 1:15-2:30 p.m.

Cellos- Tuesday, Aug. 19 from 9:30-11:45 a.m.

Basses- Tuesday, Aug. 19 from 1:00-2:30 p.m.

Everyone will also be asked to play a D major scale for as many comfortable octaves as you can and sight read a brief excerpt.
