Academic Advising Award
Description
This award recognizes one staff member at Montana State University who has made significant contributions to academic advising. This award will closely follow the National Academic Advising Association’s core values and criteria for their National Outstanding Advising Award.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this award, nominees must be permanent professional or classified staff members whose primary duties are academic advising, with a 0.5 - 1.0 FTE. Nominees must also have been employees at MSU for at least three years. Previous winners and members of the selection committee are not eligible.

Selection Criteria
• Strong interpersonal skills, including a caring attitude toward advisees, faculty,
and staff.
• Commitment to engage in developmental advising as compared to prescriptive advising.
• Skill in guiding and supporting the student’s journey and academic development.
• Reliable and consistent availability to advisees.
• Support for student progress toward graduation and career goals.
• Demonstrated outreach and initiatives to support student success.
Nomination Materials Required
Students, faculty, administrators, and others knowledgeable about the individual’s advising expertise are invited to submit nominations online. Please go to the nomination portal to complete your submission. Comments will be shared with the nominees. Students are especially encouraged to submit nominations. Individuals may submit one nomination. The review committee will contact the nominee for additional information.
