Flathead County 4-H Shooting Sports is a short term club/program. The shotgun program starts shooting the beginning of September and ends at the end of October. The archery, air rifle, air pistol, and small bore/pistol start shooting in November and end in February. The muzzle loading program starts the second weekend in March and ends the weekend after Mother's Day.

You must be enrolled in 4-H to participate in the shooting sports program. Enrollment dates are announced in the newsletter and through email. Please contact the MSU Extension Office with any 4-H Shooting Sports registration questions.

Fall Season (Sept-Oct 2025):  Shotgun/Trap

Initial registration for 4-H Shotgun/Trap will open on ZSuite on 1 July 2025.

  • On/About Mon, 28 July 2025, children/grandchildren of current registered 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors will be provided access to a Sign Up Genius site to request specific shotgun/trap shooting times.
  • On/About Thursday, 31 July 2025, returning 4-H Shotgun project youth will be provided access to a Sign Up Genius site to request specific shotgun/trap shooting times.
  • On/About Monday, 4 August 2025, new 4-H shotgun project youth will be provided access to a Sign Up Genius site to request specific shotgun/trap shooting times.

The First 4-H Shotgun/trap meeting/orientation will likely be on Thursday, 28 August 2025.

Winter Season (Nov 2025-Feb 2026): Air pistol/Air rifle/Archery/Hunting Skills

Initial registration for all 4-H Shooting Sports Winter Season disciplines (including Air pistol, Air rifle, Archery, and Hunting skills) will open on ZSuite on 1 October, 2025.

  • On/About Tuesday 14 October 2025, children/grandchildren of current registered 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors will be provided access to a Sign Up Genius site to request specific Air pistol, Air rifle, Archery, and Hunting skills shooting times.
  • On/About Friday 17 October 2025, returning 4-H Air pistol, Air rifle, Archery, and Hunting skills project youth will be provided access to a Sign Up Genius site to request specific Air pistol, Air rifle, Archery, and Hunting skills shooting times.
  • On/About Monday 20 October 2025, new 4-H Air pistol, Air rifle, Archery, and Hunting skills project youth will be provided access to a Sign Up Genius site to request specific Air pistol, Air rifle, Archery, and Hunting skills.

The first 4-H Air pistol, Air rifle, Archery, and Hunting skills orientation meeting will take place on Monday, 17 November 2025.

Important Notes

4-H Shooting Sports instructors will invite youth to participate in the Advanced and Precision Air Rifle projects. This invitation typically occurs in the form of a discussion between the youth, the youth's parent/guardian, and the 4-H Shooting Sports instructor.

4-H Shooting Sports instructors will invite youth to participate in the Advanced Air Pistol and Small Bore Pistol projects. This invitation typically occurs in the form of a discussion between the youth, the youth's parent/guardian, and the 4-H Shooting Sports instructor.

4-H youth who are participating the Flathead County 4-H Shooting Sports for their first year are limited to requesting one shooting discipline (Air Pistol, Air Rifle, or Archery).

Youth must be 9 years old (4-H age as of 1 October 2025) in order to participate in Flathead County 4-H Shooting sports Air pistol, Air rifle, Archery, and Hunting Skills projects.

 

Spring Season (March-May 2026):  Muzzleloading

Registration for 4-H Shooting Sports Muzzleloading will open on ZSuite on 1 October 2025.

The first 4-H Muzzleloading meeting will likely take place in early March 2026.

  • Youth must be at least 12 years old (4-H age as of the previous October 1st) and graduates of the Montana Hunter Safety course in order to participate in the Flathead County 4-H Shooting Sports muzzleloading project.
