College of Business students meet recruiters from across the nation
More than 60 businesses participated in the College of Business' Meet the Recruiters and Meet the Accounting Recruiters events held Thursday, September 28, 2006.
The evening kicked off at 5 pm in the courtyard behind the MSU campus s Renne Library, where businesses from across the state and around the nation gathered together to meet with business students. Companies, including Boeing, Schwan's and RightNow Technologies, met with students interested in internships and future employment.
Students found the experience rewarding and beneficial for their future job pursuits. Many attended simply to become acquainted with the different firms, while others hoped to find internship or permanent job placements.
Brittany Scalabrin, a senior marketing student from Butte, said, "I attended Meet the Recruiters because it is a great opportunity to meet so many employers in one place." Scalabrin is hoping that employment opportunities will blossom from the event. She continued, "I have given my application to two of the employers."
Following the outdoor event, accounting recruiters hosted booths at Bozeman's Holiday Inn, meeting with students particularly interested in accounting positions. Firms, such as KPMG, Clark Nuber and JCCS, met in a relaxed, business casual-atmosphere with students.
Christie Johnson, associate professor of accounting, coordinated the accounting event. She said, "It was exciting to see the dynamics in a room packed to capacity with students and employers engaged in conversation! Even students just starting their accounting education were pleased to know that it s a great time to be in accounting, especially at MSU, and that they will have many future opportunities available." Johnson continued, "It was evident MSU students are highly regarded by employers, as each sought to create a positive impression, hoping to compete successfully in hiring accounting students from MSU."
Susan Dana, interim associate dean for the College of Business, said, "This year s event was an enormous success with almost 70 employers and 200 students participating. Recruiters with whom I spoke were very impressed with our students qualifications and poise and are already excited about returning next year. This is by far the easiest way for students to find jobs and it is great to see so many of them preparing themselves so well. We are looking forward to producing an even more impressive showing next year!
