Internships
Students earning an business degree from the Jake Jabs College of Business & Entrepreneurship (Jabs) and have met the prerequisites, are elligible to enroll in an internship for credit. You must be formally admitted to the Master of Professional Accountancy (MPAc) program to enroll in ACTG 598. An internship experience may be located at the student’s initiative or through the Bracken Center (Jabs Hall 110). We receive many requests throughout the year for interns, so be sure to check often for new internships that have become available. Career/Job Opportunities are also available through the Bracken Center and MSU's Career Services.
PURPOSE OF AN INTERNSHIP
The purpose of an internship-for-credit is to gain valuable experiential on-site learning
that enhances your academic studies. Therefore, there are two essential components
to a successful internship:
- A substantive work experience related to your field of study that requires skill and judgment, supervised by a knowledgeable manager who mentors and trains you. Your internship must allow you the opportunity to interact with other professionals and learn about the structure, culture, and operations of your chosen company.
- Your thoughtful reflection upon what you are learning and how this learning enhances, and is enhanced by, your academic studies.
It is important that you select your internship work-site carefully to ensure that you will in fact be able to achieve the purpose of an internship. Please consult with Mariah Stopplecamp, Director of the Bracken Center, 110 Jabs Hall, for internship opportunities.

(If you are a graduate student in the Master of Professional Accountancy program, please see your graduate advisor for information about ACTG 598 internships).
In order to register for internship credit, follow these steps:
- Meet with a internship coach at the Bracken Center and ger your internship approved. Please review the internship for credit guidelines linked above.
- If approved, you will be sent a learning contract through DocuSign to fill out. This learning contract serves as a syllabus for the course.
- Meet with your site supervisor who will be supervising your field experience and obtain his/her signature on the Learning Contract.
- After all forms are received, you will be registered for the number of credits approved. Deadlines for registering for an internship are the same as registering for any course. Adds after the 10th class day require a check in with either your academic advisor or the Office of Student Services in Jabs 124.
Academic Credit for your internship:
If you wish to receive academic credit for the internship experience and/or if the site requires you be a registered student at the time of the experience, you must register for ACTG 498/598, BFIN 498, BMGT 498, or BMKT 498. Students may not retroactively register for the course, i.e., do the experience in the summer and actually register for the course in the fall.
Grading of internships:
Internships are graded P/F. Assessment of a student's performance is based on the faculty's review of the weekly reports and input from the work-site advisor.
