Profile: Emma Gamble '20
We would like you to meet Emma Gamble ’20, an MPAc alum from Eagle River, Alaska, who is now a Tax Asociate for BDO in Anchorage, Alaska.
Deciding to go to graduate school and enrolling in the MPAc program was one of the
best decisions she made while at MSU. The transition from being in the undergrad accounting
option to being in MPAc is seamless. The program builds off the content taught in
undergrad to give an in-depth understanding of complex accounting issues and business
formations.
During her year in MPAc, she was able to pass all four CPA exams with the help of
Dr. Marc Giullian’s planning guidance, and the MPAc courses. Emma strongly encourages
students to think about taking the exams during the MPAc program instead of waiting
until they’re in the workforce.
Another benefit of the MPAc program is that concepts taught in it are ones that she
see daily. She is thankful that she had the extra understanding of these complex concepts
before entering the workforce.
Two ways to get involved while in MPAc are through our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
program ( VITA) and being a GTA. Emma participated in both opportunities and each
one was rewarding in its own way. These programs help students connect with others
within the program, as well as undergraduates and people from the community. These
are also ways to reinforce concepts learned during undergrad.
Advice I have for students is to get to know the faculty and staff within Jabs! Some of my favorite experiences at MSU were provided to me because of the networking
I had done within the college. Another piece of advice I have for specifically for accounting students: make friends
with others in the program early!! MPAc is much more fun when the group is united
and all friends with one-another.
