Portrait of Corey Pew

Corey Pew

Assistant Professor, Mechanical & Industrial Engineering
Ph.D. from University of Washington, 2017

Dr. Pew's interests are focused on biomechanics and human-machine interactions with applications to the advancement of lower limb amputee technologies. This includes the design of new amputee devices as well as sensing and control schemes to facilitate two-way communication between the user and the prosthetic device. In addition, I have interests related to running and human performance evaluation and improvement.

Portrait of Mojtaba

Mojtaba Mohasel

Ph.D. Candidate, Mechanical Engineering
Mojtaba Mohasel was born and raised in Iran. He earned his Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in 2017 and began his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Montana State University in 2021. His doctoral research focuses on developing software for processing wearable sensor data using Automated Machine Learning (AutoML). This software streamlines the creation of deep learning models for biomechanists and accelerates the development of health monitoring tools for clinicians. Mojtaba is expected to defend his dissertation in Spring 2026.

Hobbies: Chess, swimming, hiking, and reading the poetry of Rumi
Portrait of Thomas

Thomas Madden

Ph.D. Candidate, Mechanical Engineering
Thomas is a Mechanical Engineering PhD student. He received a BS from the University of Virginia and an MS from UC Davis. He also worked as a sports scientist for the Mammoth Track Club, a professional running team. In alignment with his passions for running and human performance, his research investigates wearable sensor-based assessments of walking and running mechanics for clinical and sport applications.
Portrait of Joe

Joe Redmond

Ph.D. Student, Mechanical Engineering
Joe was raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After moving to Montana in 2019, he graduated from Montana State University in 2023 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a Minor in Mechatronics. He is currently working towards his PhD in Mechanical Engineering, focused on neuromuscular modeling using High-Density surface EMG for application to intuitive prosthesis control, as well as IMU alignment techniques for clinical translation.

Hobbies: Rock Climbing, Trail Running, Photography, Reading, eventually a winter sport
