Curtze Lab

Dr. Carolin Curtze
Assistant Professor, Food Systems, Nutrition and Kinesiology
Ph.D. from University of Groningen, 2012
Dr. Curtze’s research focuses on the objective assessment of motor dysfunction in people with movement disorders. The emphasis of her work is on Parkinson’s disease, and the effect of antiparkinsonian medication on aspects of balance, gait, and turning. She develops new ways to quantify dynamic postural control in the lab and continuously during daily life using inertial sensors to reveal instability and fluctuations in sensorimotor control. Her laboratory is interested in how various treatment interventions influence motor deficits to optimize individualized patient care.

Graduate Students

Joseph Aderonmu
Joseph Aderonmu earned his bachelor's degree in physical therapy from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria in 2019. He commenced his master's degree in Biomechanics at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2022 and began his PhD in 2024, before continuing his doctoral studies at MSU in 2025, where he focuses on Motor Control and Biomechanics. His research investigates balance measures during locomotion in older adults and individuals with Parkinson's disease, with the goal of preventing falls and enhancing rehabilitation outcomes.
