Dr. Becker’s research seeks to understand anatomical and biomechanical factors related to common orthopedic injuries, identify and evaluate the effectiveness of current and novel rehabilitation programs, and evaluate the efficacy of screening programs for identifying individuals at risk for various injuries.  Dr. Becker also performs research in the area of sports performance, with particular emphasis on the sport of track and field.

Megan Peach

Ph. D. Candidate, Exercise and Nutrition Science

Megan graduated from Montana State University in 2006 with a BS in Exercise Science and from Duke University in 2009 with a doctorate in physical therapy. She is currently working on her PhD in Biomechanics with a research focus on bone stress injuries and running mechanics.

Isaac Burgess

Ph.D. Student, Exercise and Nutrition Science

Isaac is from Oregon and graduated from Oregon State University with a B.S. in Kinesiology. He recently completed his M.S. in Exercise and Nutrition Science in our lab and has continued working towards his PhD. His research primarily focuses on elite biathlon and Nordic skiing biomechanics, with the goal of developing better knowledge and technology to improve skiing performance.

Alique Malakian

Ph.D. Student, Exercise and Nutrition Science

Alique is a first-year graduate student in the biomechanics and motor control track of the PhD program. She graduated from Biola University with her BS in Kinesiology in 2023 and from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) with her MS in Kinesiology in 2025. She is currently working on performing lower-extremity joint biomechanics analyses using IMUs in alpine skiing field settings.

Alpine skiing, running, playing soccer, reading, playing the piano, and traveling to mountainous regions!

Ethan Livingood

M.S. Student, Exercise and Nutrition Science

Ethan is originally from Maine and graduated from The College of Saint Scholastica with a B.S. degree in Exercise Physiology, where he competed in cross country and Nordic skiing. Currently working towards his MS in Exercise and Nutrition Sciences with a concentration in Biomechanics. His research interests focus on physiological and biomechanical facors of biathlon and Nordic skiing performance. Ethan also works with the U.S. Biathlon team as a member of their sports science team, and plans to do his PhD working with the team full time.

Nicola Paletti

M.S. Student, Exercise and Nutrition Science

Nicola graduated from Montana State in 2025 with a BS in Kinesiology. He competes for the MSU track and field team, specializing in the heptathlon/decathlon. He is currently working on his Master’s in Biomechanics.

Morgan Koskela

M.S. Student, Exercise and Nutrition Science

Morgan graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a B.S. in Exercise Science. She is currently working on her Master's in Exercise and Nutrition Sciences with a focus in biomechanics. Her research focuses on running mechanics and shoe technology, as well as Nordic skiing and biathlon performance indicators.

 Charlotte (Mae) Whitcomb

M.S. Student, Exercise and Nutrition Science

Mae graduated from the College of St. Scholastica in 2025 with a BS in Exercise Physiology. She is working towards her MS in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition. Her research focuses on inter-joint coordination in Nordic skiing. Mae is also a current assistant coach for the MSU Nordic ski team.

Brandon is an undergraduate majoring in Cell Biology and Neuroscience on the pre-med track. He received an Undergraduate Scholars Program grant to perform research in our lab. His research focuses on biomechanical factors that can predict performance in biathlon.
