What We Do
The Bioinformatics Core Facility [RRID:SCR_009937] supports researchers working with high-throughput biological or omics data, often derived from next-generation sequencing experiements. The facility provides three general tiers of support:
Consultation
Expert guidance at every stage of your project - before data collection and after analysis is complete.
- Experimental design and power analysis
- Sequencing platform and library prep selection
- Statistical approach and pipeline planning
Analysis
End-to-end bioinformatics pipeline execution using established and novel workflows.
- Quality control and pre-processing
- Reference-based and de novo assembly
- Differential abundance and expression analysis
- Pathway enrichment and functional annotation
- Custom pipeline development for novel data types
- Accessioned data submission to public repositories
- Data storage and backup
Data Presentation
Publication-quality figures, tables, and reproducible code.
- Manuscript-ready figures (R/Python)
- Methods/results text and citation support
- Code annotation, documentation, and repository archiving - including PI/investigative team as contributor
- Supplementary data formatting
Who We Serve
The Core is open to all MSU researchers, external academics, and industrial customers who plan to generate or work with high-throughput biological datasets, including:
- Any lab personnel including undergraduates and graduate students with analysis support and training
- Principal Investigators with pipeline execution and manuscript preparation
- Grant applicants with bioinformatics design and budget justification
- Industry partners with target identification/validation
Acknowledgement
Acknowledgment of core facility services and instruments supported by Montana State University is required in publications as it is a key performance indicator of our research activity and we are required to report publication output to our funding agencies.
