I am an assistant professor of American Studies and English here at Montana State. I come from a literature background and became interested in American Studies because I realized that the work I wanted to do didn’t fit neatly within the disciplinary boundaries of literary studies – or any disciplinary boundaries, for that matter! The interdisciplinary nature of American Studies has been the perfect home for my scholarly interests, which center on 20th - 21st century Native American literature, film, and material culture, critical race theory, federal Indian law, private property and public lands in the US, and the Western genre in film and literature. I love teaching American Studies at MSU because I meet students from all walks of life and with widely varied scholarly interests – it’s so much fun to help these students put together a degree that aligns with their ambitions and goals!
