Dietetic Systems Leadership – Master of Science (M.S.) and Dietetic Internship Graduate Certificate
The Montana Dietetic Internship & Graduate Program offers two program pathways. The Master of Science in Dietetic Systems Leadership & Dietetic Internship (MSDI) track is a 2-year degree specifically designed for students who wish to simultaneously complete a Dietetic Internship and a Master of Science degree in Dietetic Systems Leadership. The first year of the program is online coursework, and in the second year students complete supervised practice in Montana (Kalispell, Missoula, Butte, Helena, Great Falls, Helena, Billings) or Sheridan, Wyoming.
The Dietetic Internship Graduate Certificate (DI) is designed for students who hold a master’s degree to complete supervised practice experiences to obtain a certificate (DI verification statement) in Montana or Wyoming.
Both pathways qualify students to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians.
“Without the connections I made through MDI, I’m sure I wouldn’t have been able to start my career as (a registered dietitian) immediately following my internship,” said Colleen Mickolio, a member of the first MDI class. “Many of the connections I made with MDI remain my friends and respected colleagues today.”

Learn By Doing
Regardless of program pathway, students in the Montana Dietetic Internship & Graduate Program have a variety of opportunities for hands-on learning experiences through a 36-week internship program, which includes 1,000 hours of supervised practice. Interns will be assigned to one of eight geographic regions in Montana or Wyoming during the internship period. Locations in Montana include Billings, Butte, Great Falls, Helena, Kalispell and Missoula. Locations in Wyoming include Sheridan. Interns can indicate their top two location choices during the application process and rank their internship rotation preferences from food systems rotation to specialty clinical care.
