Civil Engineering

Bring together knowledge of material properties and structural design to prepare for careers that provide society with vital infrastructure including roads, buildings, bridges, transit systems and water treatment systems.

Civil Engineering – B.S. in Civil Engineering

Students in the Civil Engineering program at Montana State learn how to design and build the big things that society relies on: roads, bridges, buildings, water treatment plants and more. Whether touring a construction site during class or working with a professor on research to make new kinds of high-strength concrete, Civil Engineering students are afforded a variety of opportunities to develop skills that will serve them in positions in construction, transportation, structural engineering and more.

In the Design Unit at Montana State, civil engineering undergraduates work on real projects to lighten the load for Montana Department of Transportation, where many graduates will then go on to work.

Hands-On Learning
With the capstone senior design project, engineering students work in teams to help organizations, companies and MSU researchers solve real-world problems.

Career Resources

Within their first year of graduation, more than 96% of Montana State graduates are employed, continuing their education or not seeking employment, and career guidance website Zippia consistently ranks MSU as the #1 school in the state where alumni are most likely to land jobs.

Career Coaching & Professional Skills Studio

Professional career coaches help students with their career exploration, employer networking opportunities and job or internship searches. They also critique resumes and help students practice job interviews.
