Program Information
Completing the MFA typically takes about three years (60 credit hours).
The first year includes courses in history, theory, and all the practical phases of production, including production management. The intent of the curriculum is not to prepare students to be cinematographers, editors, or sound recordists, per se, but to educate producers and directors who understand the complete production process.

The second year consists of a professional practicum during which time you will produce a professional film.
The third year requires you to produce a thesis film and essay that demonstrate your filmmaking skills and your ability to formulate and articulate a clear aesthetic and rhetorical position as a science and natural history filmmaker.
