Complete MFA 08-09 Course Curriculum
Graduate Study
Candidates for the MFA in Science and Natural History Filmmaking take courses that include the history and theory of science and natural history film, as well as extensive work in film and video production, including cinematography, sound, production management, editing, and writing. The intent of the program is not to prepare students to be cinematographers, editors, sound recordists or writers, but to educate producers and directors who understand the complete production process.
FIRST YEAR CURRICULUM (Cumulative Total Credits Required in 1st & 2nd year is 45 Credits)
2nd YEAR CURRICULUM
- MTA 506 (3 Credits) CRITICAL APROACHES TO SCIENCE FILM.
- MTA 521 (3 credits) CONTEMPORARY TRENDS/NONFICTION.
- MTA 525 (3 credits) 2nd YEAR FILM PRODUCTION.
- MTA 526 (3 credits) ALTERNATIVE NONFICTION.
2nd YEAR ELECTIVES - Take a minimum of 10 (12) credits of the following:
- MTA 513 (3 credits) ADVANCED CINEMATOGRAPHY.
- MTA 523 (2 credits) 2nd-YEAR FILM PREP (may be required and must be taken Fall Semester of 2nd year).
- MTA 557 (3 credits) POST PRODUCATION/INFO DESIGN.
- MTA 570 (1-3 credits) INDEPENDENT STUDY.
- MTA 576 (1-3 credits) PROFESSIONAL INTERNSHIP.
THIRD YEAR CURRICULUM
- Fall: THESIS (8 Credits)
- Spring: THESIS (7 Credits)
