The College of Arts and Architecture

The creative center of Montana State University, the College of Arts and Architecture offers study in architecture, art, graphic design, music, filmmaking, photography, and theatre.

The School of Film and Photography

Montana State University is the home of one of the top undergraduate film degree programs in the northwest region. As a film and video production facility, it includes two large sound stages, sound rooms, extensive non-linear editing bays, and a full array of film and video production equipment. The School also has programs in still photography and dramatic arts.

Film and Video Production

Thanks to generous donations by our sponsors, the department supports an array of state-of-the-art equipment for student use. Our program provides some of the best equipment available for student use.

Students routinely work in a variety of different formats from High Definition to DV to film. Our greatest strength is in digital video. Students have the opportunity to learn and use the best video cameras available in the world today, including High Definition (SONY 1080i and 24P), HDV (SONY HVR-A1Us, HVR-V1Us, HVR-Z1Us) digital video (SONY PD-170s, DSR 250s, and DSR 570s).

In addition, the program has its own Aaton XTR Super-16mm film camera. The student to camera ratio is 2:1, one camera for every two students in the program, whereas many other film programs have ratios that range from 5:1 to 10:1 or higher.

The graduate editing lab is Apple based utilizing the Final Cut Studio package for post production as well as Adobe Creative Suite.

The program also has extensive professional sound, lighting and grip support available for student use.
